Sex Offenses & Registration

Sex Offenses

If you are accused of a sexual offense in California, you need to get the most experienced, successful defense lawyer you can afford.

If convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor, the punishment routinely requires lifetime registration as a sex offender, internet listing on Megan’s List (and other internet lists), restrictions on where you can reside, etc.  Most felony convictions require lengthy, mandatory state prison commitments (some ‘for life’).

The local District Attorney’s Offices have specially trained prosecution units to prosecute
all sex crimes.  These units are specially funded and trained by the State of California and are notoriously inflexible in resolving cases.

The laws of the State of California protect alleged victims of sex crimes more than any other type of alleged victim.  Defense lawyers cannot cross-examine alleged victims to the
full-extent, because of “Rape Shield Laws” and other protective laws.  Even serious psychological histories of alleged victims are frequently disallowed.

The procedures in the courtroom also benefit the alleged victim in sex crimes.  For example, the law allows for a “support person” to sit with the alleged victim when she testifies.  Procedures like this further bias the jury (which is already biased because of the nature
of the sex charge) against the accused person.

If you are charged with a sex crime, you need a defense lawyer who has equal or better
training than the special prosecutors who are trying to convict you.  A typical “good lawyer” may not be enough.  You need someone with a proven track record of success, both in winning these types of cases and in favorably resolving those cases that can’t be tried.

The Law Offices of Honeychurch & Finkas is the most experienced firm in this region in defending people accused of sex crimes.  Our success rate is remarkable and unmatched.

you should call us immediately.

Sex Registration

California law requires persons convicted of most sex offenses to register as sex offenders
for life.  Their names and pertinent personal information are broadcast on various internet
lists established by Megan’s Law, etc.

California’s Penal Code §290 registration laws are very complicated and frequently change.  Most changes are retroactive to old convictions.

Nevertheless, there are situations where an attorney can petition the court for relief from registration.  This applies to most misdemeanors and some felonies.

Our law office is the most informed and successful in obtaining relief from Penal Code §290 registration.  Again, this is an extremely complicated and sophisticated area of law.  Our law firm can help you.
